Explore

Experience the best of Coromandel with two stunning bucket list tramps on Coromandel. Climb to the summit of the iconic Pinnacles, steeped in our early logging history - and walk the stunning Coromandel Coastal walkway for breathtaking views. Our last day is a short walk through the property at Tangiaro to a tranquil little swimming hole. This escape is suitable for those new to tramping with a good level of fitness.

Taste

Coffee -  Visit our very own guide Coxy's coffee roasting shed, see a roast in action.Take home a bag of locally roasted Pinnacle Coffee after enjoying a freshly brewed cup. Karyn & Coxy roast their own beans to produce their very own 'Pinnacle Coffee'. The only coffee in New Zealand with ethically sourced beans from Vietnam.

Fresh seafood - Enjoy the freshest Green Lipped mussels in the Coromandel with lunch at the Mussel Kitchen. They collect, cultivate, harvest, cook and serve their own mussels and grow most of our herbs and fresh salad items onsite. If mussels aren't your thing, the old kiwi classic fish and chips are sure to please.

Gin - Visit a brand new distillery in Thames and hear from owners on how they harness flavours and aromas from the wild to infuse into their gin and other distillates. Think damson plum and wood-aged Manuka infused gin - yum!

"A brilliant week on the Coromandel peninsula with spectacular walks, three of which were outstanding. Rose, our tour guide, is a star: supremely well organised and efficient, helpful and a delightful companion." - Ann, UK

"The accommodation was great, the food delightful and Rose (our guide) was excellent in every way. A lot of NZ being vertical, some of the walks had their challenges – but that is what walking is all about! The flexibility, both with Kylie arranging our trip, and throughout our trip was amazing. Rose catered for every occasion and whim! " - Simon and Sue, Aussie

Your escape itinerary day by day

Day One: Friday

14km / 7 hours hiking (hard grade)
Meet bright and early at Mangotahi Lodge to join Coxy for a freshly roasted cup of Pinnacles coffee, before we head up the valley ready to take on some spectacular craggy terrain on the epic Pinnacles hike. Traversing through groves of nikau palms, huge rata trees, and across streams and swing bridges, we make our way up to the hut. The last section of the track leading to the jagged summit of the Pinnacles is steep with ladders and requires some scrambling, but for those up for the challenge the reward is magnificent panoramic views across the Coromandel. After lunch at the hut, we head back down the track and with the hardest hike under our belts, we embark on our epic coastal road trip to the top of the peninsula (2.5hour drive) and check into your very own one-bedroom chalet at Tangiaro where we will be based for two nights. Dinner at the restaurant is included tonight.

Day Two: Saturday

10km - 20km  (your choice!) / 4 - 7 hours hiking (moderate grade)
Boots on as we take on the coastal walkway today, at the most northern and remote tip of the peninsula. The track, an old bridle path formed by early pioneers boasts some of the most spectacular coastal scenery on the peninsula. We wind our way through Kanuka forest and pristine sub-tropical bush discovering twinkling bays along the way. Passing beneath the shadow of Mt Moehau, the track follows an easy gradient with a short steep section into and out of Poley Bay. From here, you will head on to farmland with views of Great Barrier Island. We have the luxury of choosing how far you want to walk today on the return track. Late afternoon we head back to Tangiaro, just a short 20 minute drive to enjoy a spa, a massage (if pre-booked), or simply relax on the deck with a glass of well-deserved wine. Enjoy a two-course meal at the restaurant tonight.

Day Three: Sunday

3km / 1 hour walking (easy grade) - completely optional!
After a leisurely breakfast, we explore the beautiful private river walk on the Tangiaro property, through native bush that leads to a picturesque swimming hole. After we've checked out, we head back down the coast to Coromandel town for a coffee stop and a quick look around this charming little colonial town. Lunch is the freshest green lipped mussels at the Mussel Kitchen. Now for the best way to round out a trip - GIN! Join master distiller Paul in his new Thames distillery and hear how he harnesses flavours and aromas from the wild to infuse into their gin and other distillates. Think manuka, kauri, plum, juniper and butterfly pea infused gin creations. After sampling some of his creations, we head back to collect vehicles and say farewells at Mangotahi Lodge.

Note: We will always endeavour to stick as closely to this itinerary as possible to deliver the best experience to you. If anything outside of our control should change as it does from time to time, we will substitute elements of this itinerary to reflect the same value and level of amazing!
