Itinerary
Itinerary
Day One: Sunday
5km (3 miles) / 1.5 - 2 hours hiking (easy grade)
Lush rainforest and remnant giant Kauri trees
We will collect you from Auckland before heading to the west side of the Coromandel Peninsula. Our first walk is a gentle one, a stunning rainforest trail leads us to the best remaining Kauri grove on the peninsula in a lush and diverse ecological area. A picnic lunch in nature to soak up the serenity before the walk out. From here, we head north on one of the most scenic coastal drives in the country to the warm and welcoming Buffalo Lodge in Coromandel Town where we will be based both nights. Relax with a drink in hand and some nibbles and get to know the group and your wonderful guide. Dinner is served at the lodge and is accompanied by New Zealand wine.
Day Two: Monday
3km (1.8 miles) / 2 hours hiking (easy grade)
The epitome of charm
Today is a chance to visit the east side of the peninsula, known for its white sandy beaches. Our walk today is a gentle loop track through regenerating native bush where the local conservation group is working hard to boost kiwi numbers. There are a number of old mining tunnels and several small stream crossings for interest. A short drive up the road to Otama and Opito Bay where we meet the owners of gourmet award-winning Opito salt! Our group is treated to a tour of the salt farm and a sit down tasting before we take you to the beach to cook up lunch with a view! There is an optional short walk along the beach and up to a lookout point for those who would like to get moving after lunch, and plenty of time for a swim in the ocean before we return to Buffalo Lodge for a leisurely late afternoon.
Day Three: Tuesday
12km (7.5 miles) / 5 hours hiking (moderate grade)
Kanuka forest, coastal cliffs and a well-earned wine
Boots on as we head to the coastal walkway today, at the most northern and remote tip of the peninsula. The track, an old bridle path formed by early pioneers boasts some of the most spectacular coastal scenery on the peninsula. We wind our way through Kanuka forest and pristine sub-tropical bush discovering twinkling bays along the way. Passing beneath the shadow of Mt Moehau, the track follows an easy gradient with a short steep section into and out of Poley Bay, then return via the same track. After our walk there is the option of a swim at Fletcher Bay before we head back to the lodge to relax on the deck with a glass of well-deserved wine. Enjoy a two-course meal tonight.
Day Four: Wednesday
7km (4.5 miles) / 4 hours hiking (medium grade)
Spectacular vistas and twinkling bays
Boots on for an exclusive farm peninsula adventure today! We’ll traverse private farmland with spectacular coastal views, following working farm tracks that wind through native Kanuka stands. This secluded route leads to the hidden gem of Sandy Bay - a tranquil haven accessible only by boats (and us today!), where golden sand meets crystal-clear waters in perfect isolation. The gentle farm track offers breathtaking vistas across the Hauraki Gulf, where rolling green pastures meet rugged coastline in stunning contrast. Our exclusive access means we’ll have this coastal paradise entirely to ourselves. A stop at Coromandel Oyster Company for some freshly shucked Te Kouma Oysters acts as a reward for the day’s efforts. Back at the Lodge, relax in the hot tub or explore their private bush trail and waterfall. Dinner at the lodge tonight over some beautiful New Zealand wines and shared hiking yarns.
Note: This itinerary should be seen as a guide only and is subject to change at any time due to elements outside our control. We will always endeavour to stick as closely to this itinerary as possible to deliver the best experience to you. The above doesn't detail all 'Nosh' experiences in full as we like to keep some things a surprise!

Track conditions
Track surfaces on our Coastal Charm Taster tour vary, but most are on well maintained paths, with a couple on more rugged terrain where you will be walking over tree roots, mud and rocks. You will get the most out of this tour if you have a reasonable level of fitness, although no hiking experience is necessary. Our guides ensure that the pace is dictated by the group and allow plenty of time for short breaks for water, refreshments, photos and interesting stories on the way. For us, it's about the journey, not the destination.
See our training guide for preparation tips.
EXPLORE WITH US
Our Nature
We've carefully hand selected our combination of public and private tracks throughout the Coromandel for their beauty, diversity of terrain and landscapes, flora, special features and conservation values. We think you'll be hard-pressed to find a hiking tour with more diversity in a relatively small geographical area. The programme of day walks on this tour is designed to have mostly easier, and one medium graded walks, it's much more about active relaxing! Some of our tracks are well-known and are too scenic to leave off our tours, others are so secret that not even the locals know about them!
